Designation "stone of Bourgogne" is in fact covering a set of stones with different customs.

SEMI-HARD STONES
Semi-hard stones are used for inside and outside paving among individuals. The collection of tailored stones is mainly used for inside and outside decoration (paving, stairs, chemneys, fountains...).

HARD STONES
Hard stones are used for paving area in which the circulation is important (for example in the public sphere).

Properties of calcareous stones of Bourgogne :
Volumic mass (density) : Between 2300 and
2700 kg/m3
Porosity : Variable depending on stones variety. It's about 1% for stones of Comblanchien and 20% for stones of Chanceaux.
Frost fragility : Stones resistance to frost depends on stones variety. Frost fragility doesn't mean porosity but the capacity of stone to evacuate the water.
